Scott experienced photography from an early age as a member of a highly photographed family…a result of his father’s intense interest in cameras and pictures. Early on, he decided he would much rather be on the shooting end of the lens. From the outset, Scott was motivated by photography because it required a blend of technical knowledge with an artistic eye.
Growing up, Scott spent a large amount of time outdoors – first hiking and backpacking, then moving into more technical climbing and skiing. In these pursuits he carried his camera constantly, and through experience shooting in the outdoors, he began to develop and formulate his interests within the wide field of taking pictures. The natural world forced him to deal with the challenges of exposure created by ice, snow, and reflective surfaces in natural light. At the same time, shooting nature also made clear again and again the huge role of composition in an image.
As an adult, Scott participated in a variety of classes at the Photographic Center Northwest, in Seattle, WA. These classes provided motivation, inspiration, and guidance to pursue and develop his work. Almost simultaneously, Scott made the transition into digital media, and began to create a web presence.
In recent years, Scott’s work as a mountain guide has provided many opportunities to take photos in beautiful and remote mountain locations. At present, Scott’s primary interests are nature and outdoor sports photography. Throughout, he is intrigued by simple forms and lines, and seeks to expose viewers to different angles or unique subject matter they may not otherwise experience.
